Sometimes, we just don’t have the time to make a run to the pharmacy or beauty store to stock up on our skincare needs. Given how busy life can get, this oversight is understandable – however, this doesn’t mean your skin stops needing the skincare routine you’ve gotten used to.

Don’t worry, however – we’ve got you covered. By the time you’re done reading this article, all you’ll need is a few simple ingredients and a couple of minutes of time, and you’ll be able to whip up extremely effective mud and clay face and body masks that will leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if you choose to incorporate your favorite into your permanent skincare routine!

1. Blackhead Mud Mask

Plagued by blackheads? Not looking forward to having them pulled out with tweezers? Never fear – bentonite clay can solve all your concerns!

For this mask, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
  • 3 drops of scented essential oil of your choice. We recommend rose or lavender, though all options work just as well.
  • 3 teaspoons of bentonite clay
  • Water

The process of making the mask is simple – add the lemon juice, essential oil, and water to the bentonite clay (or clay powder), and mix well. You can then apply the mask once a week for best results.

How it works is simple – the bentonite gets rid of the dirt on your skin and exfoliates it, while the lemon juice acts as an astringent. The result? A mud mask that promotes skin regeneration.

2. Mask for Oily or Inflamed Skin

Another use for clay skin masks is by people who experience oily, inflamed skin. This mask s a little more involved, but we’re sure you’ll love the results nonetheless!

The ingredients you’ll need are:

  • 1.5 tablespoons aloe vera gel
  • 2 drops of an acne reducing essential oil – we recommend rose to go with the next ingredient on the list
  • 1 tablespoon rose water
  • 1.5 teaspoons French green clay
  • Half a teaspoon of kaolin clay

To make the mask first, mix the two clays together. Then, add the other ingredients – the essential oil, rose water, and aloe vera gel – to the mixture and combine. Once fully mixed, you can then apply it to your skin.

The aloe vera and rose water act to cool and soothe your skin, while the French green clay is effective at treating acne. It also absorbs oils and exfoliates your skin, getting rid of dead skin cells. The addition of the kaolin creates a mixture that is effective at treating skin redness and inflammation.

3. Soothing Clay Mask

Sometimes, you just want to treat yourself to a clay mask and some rest and relaxation. That’s where this mask comes in – it’s easy to make and will leave your skin feeling rested and rejuvenated like never before!

What you’ll need is:

  • 1 tablespoon of bentonite clay
  • 1 tablespoon of plain yogurt

Making the mask is simple – all you need to do is mix the ingredients well before applying the newly made mask to your face!

Aside from being easy to make, this mask is actually also great for your skin. The yogurt helps exfoliate your skin, tightens your pores, and serves as an anti-bacterial to help reduce the risk of skin blemishes.

Bentonite clay, on the other hand, pulls toxins from your skin and helps oxygenate your cells. It is also rich in numerous beneficial minerals, including magnesium, calcium, and silica, all of which help your skin look healthier and more radiant.

4. Dead Sea Mud Mask

Dead Sea mud is one of the most beneficial ingredients for your skin and contains 21 highly effective minerals that can treat a variety of skin concerns. However, genuine Dead Sea mud can be challenging to find unless you’re a commercial producer of mud masks.

That’s where Dead Sea mineral salts come in. You can use this easily sourced ingredient to DIY your own Dead Sea mud mask. All you’ll need is:

  • 1 teaspoon of Dead Sea mineral salts
  • 1 tablespoon of plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 teaspoons of bentonite clay
  • 5 drops of a soothing essential oil of your choice. We recommend tea tree oil, which is both antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory, though you’re free to choose your preferred option.
  • Water

To make this mask, you’ll need to mix all the ingredients aside from water in a bowl. Then, slowly add water one drop at a time to the mixture until you’re happy with the consistency of the mud. Once you’re satisfied, you’re free to apply it to your skin!

5. Mud Mask for Oily Skin

Fuller’s Earth, also known as Multani Mitti, is one of the best options for oily skin. It helps absorb the excess oil and sebum from your skin and also clears all the impurities from your pores.

This is another relatively simple mask to make. All you’ll need is:

  • 1 tablespoon Fuller’s Earth
  • Lemon juice and rose water as needed

Mix the Fuller’s Earth with as much lemon juice and rose water as needed to create a paste-like consistency. When you’re satisfied with the texture, you can apply the mud mask to your face and body.

For best results, it’s recommended that you use this mask up to twice a week.
